PERM-E-LASTIC
GLAZING COMPOUNDR
DESCRIPTION:
Meets consumer spec. C-669-75 and federal spec. TT-G-410E. Perm-E-Lastic Glazing Compound is a 100% oil-based, ready-to-use glazing product. It is a fibrous, resilient compound over which a tough, protective coat forms, yet allows expansion and contraction for normal temperature changes. Perm-E-Lastic's excellent handling characteristics provide good elongation and knives exceptionally well. The perfect weatherproof seal lasts indefinitely. This non-asbestos product is the choice of professionals.
SUGGESTED USES:
Perm-E-Lastic Glazing Compound is especially recommended for bedding and setting of glass in all metal or wood sash on new construction and retrofit of existing windows and storms. Additional uses include the patching of woodwork, stone, tile, concrete, and brick. Effective also for setting toilet bowls and many other plumbing uses.
PERFORMANCE CHARACTERISTICS:
Perm-E-Lastic Glazing Compound represents the finest of quality with outstanding adhesive performance on metal and wood surfaces. Will not sag or shrink and resists chalking and cracking. On proper application, Perm-E-Lastic resists weathering damage and the effects of ultraviolet rays of the sun.
PREPARATION AND APPLICATION:
Perm-E-Lastic Glazing Compound performs best when applied to clean, dry and frost-free surfaces. Glazing compound is ready to use and if thinning is ever necessary, a lightweight linseed oil is recommended (no solvents). Apply at temperatures above 40oF. In glass replacement, remove all old putty, dirt and loose paint. A wire brush is best in addressing these and other rust related problems. Unpainted surfaces should be primed with a quality oil-based primer. Glazier's points or clips will hold the glass while the glazing compound is applied, filling the L-shaped recess. Glazing should then be smoothed with a putty knife to an angle that properly sheds water from the frame.
Proper completion should include painting of glazing after it forms a skin and sets up. Paint the compound as soon as set or at least within four weeks time. Painting extends the life of the glazing job. Painting should not be done too soon as it may retard the setting of the compound. Oil-based or latex paints may be used, but for best results, use oil-based paints. It is also best to test a sample area to be certain that paint is compatible with glazing. Perm-E-Lastic Glazing Compound is not intended for use on organically sealed insulated glass, plastic windows, or any pane over 48" in any direction.
